Violin Looping Course
Learn to create your own original music with just your violin and a looper pedal
Loved by violinists around the world — classical, folk, and modern
Violin Looping Course
Master the art of violin looping. Learn how to compose and perform your own original music using just your violin and a looper pedal — building bass lines, harmony, rhythm and melody from the ground up. In this video course you will develop a complete creative process that lets you create a full, multi-layered musical experience entirely on your own, and discover a new dimension of joy and freedom in your playing.
Open to all violinists
You don’t need any background in composition, improvisation, or music theory to take this course. The only prerequisite is to be able to play your violin. Everything else — harmony, bass lines, rhythm, melody, arrangement — will be introduced step by step as part of the course. What you do bring is something equally important: your sensitivity as a musician, your personal taste, and your own unique sound. We will use all of these gifts as our starting point.
What will you learn in the Violin Looping Course?
- You'll learn the basic functions of a looper pedal and how to effortlessly create seamless loops. (If you've ever struggled to start and stop your loops at just the right moment, I'll show you a really easy way to do this perfectly every time!).
- I’ll introduce you to the basics of harmony, and by the end of the course you'll be making music with chords and chord progressions that you compose yourself.
- You will learn to create rich and beautiful accompaniments using a variety of sounds, articulations and techniques available on the violin.
- You'll learn how to create groovy bass lines with your violin that will work as the foundation and heartbeat of your compositions.
- I will teach you the basics of chopping and other percussive techniques that will allow you to add rhythm to your music.
- You’ll learn to compose your own melodies and even improvise confidently over the loops that you create.
- You will learn a model for arranging the different voices in your loops, so they work together musically like the instruments in a band.
- This course will give you the creative mindset and the confidence to enjoy expressing yourself musically.
What makes this course different?
- A complete creative system, not just a looper technique. Many looping tutorials focus only on the technical side — how to operate the pedal. This course goes much further. You'll learn a full compositional method: how to listen, how to shape your musical ideas, how to arrange your loops, and how to develop the creative mindset of a composer.
- Created specifically for violinists. The course is designed around the unique palette of sounds available on the violin — the textures, articulations, and techniques that make the instrument so expressive. Every example and exercise is tailored to what you can do with your violin.
- Learning by doing. Every concept is introduced through beautiful musical demonstrations, and you'll be creating your own music right from the start. There are no abstract exercises — only real, hands-on creativity.

Learn from a professional loop artist
“Discovering the looper pedal was a turning point for me as a violinist.”

Hi, my name is Mireia Clua. I’m a professional violinist based in New York City, and I perform original compositions that I have created using the exact method I will teach you in this video course.
Discovering the looper pedal was a turning point for me as a modern violinist. With this simple tool I was able to compose my own music, groove, jam, and let out all the music inside me. I had lots of insights and made many discoveries along the way that slowly shaped into a system for composing with the looper pedal. And I felt the need to share these discoveries to help other violin players find this unlimited source of joy and happiness that I had found.
My experience with looping and performing, combined with my years of experience teaching improvisation and creativity to adult students, allowed me to create the step-by-step methodology that I am presenting in this video course. I’ll show you a way into this beautiful world of creativity that will let you express the music inside you.
Everything you need to know
- You just need a way to amplify your violin, which could be a microphone or a pickup, and a small amplifier.
- You can use a looper pedal of any model or brand.
- An octave pedal is very recommended. (You’ll love it for the bass parts!)
In the course, there is a whole lesson where I help you set up your equipment. And if you have any doubts or questions, feel free to reach out to me at support@mireiaclua.com. I’ll be happy to help!
Yes! You can follow this course with any looper pedal, regardless of the brand or model, as we focus on the core functions common to all looper pedals. I’ll teach you how to use these basic functions to craft seamless, musical loops. I personally use the Boss RC-30 in the course—it’s super easy to use, portable, and affordable—so I highly recommend it.
That said, if you already have a looper pedal, you don’t need to buy a new one. But if you’re looking to buy, the Boss RC-30 is a great place to start. Another good option is the Boss RC-500, which is an upgraded version of the RC-30. Other brands have similar models too—just look for something simple and easy to use.
This course will give you the elements you need to compose your own loops with any rhythm and any style you want. I will give you demonstrations in many styles, and you will be able to take each concept and use it to create music in your own style.
The course was recorded on violin, and many of the on-screen graphics show a violin fingerboard. But since viola and cello are also tuned in fifths, everything translates naturally — the looping concepts, the musicality, and the approach to arrangement are the same across all bowed strings. The only difference worth noting is that cello players may not need the octave pedal, since the instrument already covers those lower registers.
If you have any questions about applying the lessons to your specific instrument, feel free to write to me anytime — I’m happy to help.
This course includes 4 hours of video lessons, making the lessons an average of 15 minutes long. The lessons are rich in content, and I encourage you to watch and revisit each lesson many times, pausing the video to jam with the concepts along the way.
The only prerequisite is to be able to play your violin! You don’t need to know anything about harmony, composing, chopping or improvising to begin, and sight-reading won’t be a barrier either. In this course I’ll give you all the necessary elements to compose your own music!
